Hello!
We are Rachel and Mark. We thank you for taking the time to read our letter to learn more about our family. We are grateful for your courage to make the selfless choice of adoption. We can only imagine how important a decision this is for you, and we admire your strength and courage. We hope this letter will give you insight into our loving home and the life we can provide for your child.
About us~
We were introduced to each other in 1993 by a mutual friend and immediately fell in love. We had found our soul mate and quickly became the best of friends. We have been married for 12 years. Our marriage is strong and is based on our close friendship, honesty, love and respect for one another. We have been blessed with two beautiful children. In 2001 we had our first son Jake after struggling with infertility. Eighteen months later we were blessed with another wonderful gift - our son Luke.
Why we want to adopt~
We love being parents and are excited to add a new baby to our family. Adoptive children have been a big part of our family for over 10 years now. We have had several of our cousins adopt children from Russia and Romania who are wonderful additions to our family. Recently Rachel’s sister adopted our newest niece and that has inspired us to consider adoption for ourselves. She has a special relationship with our children, and it only confirmed our belief that they will be excellent big brothers. Rachel had complications during her second pregnancy that left her in good health but unable to conceive again. We enjoy our family so much and would love to complete it with another wonderful child.
Mark~
Mark is a terrific, kind, gentle and loving husband and father. He is extremely patient and easy going and fun to be around. Mark has a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics and successfully manages his own business in finance. He has a flexible work schedule and he works one day per week at home in order to spend more time with his wife and children. Mark enjoys spending time with family and friends, coaching the boys' basketball teams, playing tennis and golf, and being outdoors. He is very involved with parenting our children and is often referred to as “Mr. Mom” by several of our friends.
Rachel~
Rachel is a wonderful, sweet, loyal and loving wife and mother. She is fun loving and adventurous, and always puts her family’s needs ahead of her own. Rachel is fortunate to be able to be a stay-at-home mom. She has a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy and worked for 5 years as a physical therapist until our first child was born. Rachel enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, running, playing golf, tennis, swimming, boating, and just being outdoors. She has run 2 marathons and enjoys working hard to achieve her goals. Since the birth of her children Rachel’s number one goal has been to be the best possible mother she can be. She is very involved at the boys' schools and volunteers regularly to participate in the classroom and help out whenever needed. Rachel also helps organize and run the local blood drive.
Our children~
Both of our boys have a unique personality that contributes to the dynamics of our family. The boys are the best of friends but are different in many ways. Jake is a very thoughtful and generous young boy. He is extremely patient and sensitive and enjoys reading, doing puzzles and playing sports. He also enjoys playing with his friends, riding his bicycle, playing basketball and golf, swimming, and he is learning how to play tennis and soccer.
Luke is the family clown and he is always making us laugh. He has a great sense of humor (especially for a 6 year old). His interests are riding his bicycle, swimming, reading books, and playing tennis, golf and basketball. He also has a passion for music and enjoys singing and dancing to the music. He adores babies and can’t resist kissing their heads and touching their feet. Both boys are excited to become big brothers to a new baby brother or sister.
Our home~
We live in a 5-bedroom home with plenty of room for a new baby. Our backyard is fenced in so the children and our dog can run freely. We also have swings, bubbles, chalk, and many other fun outdoor toys. We live in a wonderful quiet neighborhood with many young children. Our New York suburban community is very child-friendly and offers a wide variety of activities for the children such as concerts, magic shows, holiday parades and sports. We are a short drive from the beach, pool, tennis, golf, museums and playgrounds/parks.
Our well-loved dog, Georgia, is a 8 year old golden retriever that adores children. She too is especially fond of trips to grandma and grandpa’s house where she loves to swim at the beach and dive for rocks.
Our fun times~
Our house is always full of laughter, hugs and affection. We are a fun and active family. Our days may be spent at the zoo, aquarium, children’s museum or the playground, or simply in our backyard with friends. The boys also enjoy visiting their grandparents’ house on the weekends where they spend time at the beach, swimming, boating, and fishing. Our annual family trips include apple and pumpkin picking and an extended family vacation to the beaches of North Carolina. We also enjoy our nightly routine of snuggle time and group hug. This time is spent snuggling, talking about our day, reading books or just tickling and being silly. This routine always sends everyone off to bed with a smile.
Our families~
Mark is the youngest of 2, and his sister has a daughter and a son. Rachel is also the youngest of 2, and her sister has an adopted daughter and is in the process of adopting again. Our extended family is quite large with over 15 young cousins. Rachel’s family is close by and we see them weekly for visits to each other’s homes, the zoo, the beach, fishing and boating. We also make sure to spend all holidays with our family and we especially like to make a big deal of birthdays. We make sure that the children see their grandparents and cousins that are further away at least several times per year. The children are also especially close with their 94 year old great grandfather. Our large extended family and circle of friends eagerly await another new arrival to our family.
Parenting and our promise to you~
Our children are our first and foremost priority. We take great pleasure and pride in raising our children. We demonstrate and teach them important qualities such as respect, generosity, honesty and friendship as well as problem solving abilities. We are excited to become adoptive parents and 2 big brothers await a new baby brother or sister with huge hearts and open arms. We have given much thought to our decision to adopt. We have a loving home and look forward to sharing our love with another child.
Our goal as parents is to provide a loving, stable home. We are fortunate to have the means and the desire to expose our children to as many wonderful experiences as possible. Our promise is to provide a nurturing, supportive home and we hope to share with them the importance of family, love and laughter as well as respect for nature, animals and other people.
Our values~
We both come from extremely close families with strong values of honesty and compassion towards others. It is important to us that our children are raised with the same kind of unconditional love, positive reinforcement and support that we have always received from our families. We strongly value education and the pursuit of ones dreams. If we are fortunate enough to adopt another baby into our family we will do everything possible to fill that baby’s life with love, happiness and security.
We embrace God and prayer in our everyday life. We have a strong committment to our community, helping others and to protecting the environment. Our children's summer lemonade stand raised $100 for victim's of hurricane Katrina and our current recycling project is raising money for the local animal rescue group.
Open adoption~
We believe that every child should be told their adoption story from an early age. We would like to openly share with your child the courage and strength you had to make the selfless, loving choice of adoption. We will always feel respect and admiration for you in giving us this precious gift. We hope that we can work together to find a level of openness in our adoption plan that is comfortable for everyone.
